What is Community Yoga?
Community Yoga is a pure and simple hour of yoga for anyone wishing to start their day with breathing and stretching to strengthen the mind, body and soul. We are committed to the concept of ahimsa, which encourages us to treat ourselves and each other with kindness in thought, word, and action.

Who is Community Yoga for?
Our goal is to create an opportunity for anyone, regardless of age, level of fitness or economic standing to enjoy the benefits of yoga. Yoga that leads to stress reduction is our focus, although students can anticipate an increase in flexibility and strength as a result of their practice. We are encouraging people who dwell or work in central Hyannis to start their day practicing yoga with their neighbors. We believe that the positive experience individual students have in yoga will have a ripple effect through the community.

Who are the teachers?
Community Yoga is taught by a consortium of teachers affiliated with the Kind Yoga School of Centerville. All instructors have completed at least 200 hours of teacher training, registered by the National Yoga Alliance. Each teacher has completed coursework in specialties such as trauma-sensitive yoga and the use of the breath for relaxation. Community Yoga was founded by Virginia Ryan with critical support from Diane Kovanda of the Kind Yoga School. Virginia’s vision has been to provide yoga to the community – for anyone who wants to experience the profound health benefits of practicing yoga without worrying about whether they can afford it or not.

What should I bring?
We supply the mats if you don’t have one, just bring yourself, wear modest, comfortable clothing that moves with you. Yoga was intended to be done in bare feet. You may want to bring water to drink. Please come a few minutes before 8am, we will start on time.
