Kind Yoga Teacher Training 500-Hour Certification  – Curriculum

 

Program Requirements:

  • Complete the four 75-hour teacher training modules described in more detail below.
  • Complete 2 Sacred Reading Projects  – Bhagavad gita, Hatha Yoga Pradipika
  • Complete an approved Seva Project (giving back to the community)
  • Demonstrate teaching methodology and application via a 30 minute video documenting your teaching skills
  • Complete a final take-home written exam

The hours for the different areas of study and practice are shown below, where the hours are further divided into classroom (contact) and non-contact hours.

  • Techniques – Instruction in Yoga Asana, Pranayama, and Meditation: 100 hours
  • Teaching Methodology: 60 hours
  • Anatomy and Physiology: 40 hours
  • Philosophy/Ethics/Lifestyle: 60 hours
  • Practicum: 40 hours

Total: 300 hours

Module One: An immersion into the practices of Mindfulness and Meditation – Deepen your practice and learn to teach Mindfulness,  Meditation and Pranayama.

Module Two: Yoga Journey to your Authentic Self; Free your authentic self in your yoga practice and teaching – Taking your teaching to the next level. You will have the opportunity to explore more freedom around your own style of teaching. Advanced skills for working with private clients. You will receive personal coaching and constructive guidance on your teaching of yoga. The use of journaling and diving deeply into the eight limbed path will accompany you on this compassionate journey of radical self discovery. Your results will be authentic and genuine yoga teaching – connecting with your students and your own yoga practice.

Module Three:  Sustainable Yoga and Community – Making a transformational difference in your world –  Are you ready to experience Sustainable Yoga? – yoga as part of the world, the practice of kindness and compassion, caring for yourself and the environment, mindful eating, living with compassion for all beings, your walk exemplifies your yoga. We will also be refining, reviewing and deepening our understanding and application of 40 yoga postures.

Module Four: Exploring the Energy Body: Koshas, Chakras, how the practice of yoga strengthens the luminous body. Also  Specific Concerns – Trauma awareness,  Providing Yoga and Meditation to Specific Communities – examples may include criminal justice professionals, seniors, teens. Yoga for Special Populations – your choice of independent research project.

All Modules will employ the teachings of yoga and closely examine and put into practice the eight limbs described by Patanjali.

Yama (disciplines) and Niyamas (observances) – as part of an intentional community of yoga practitioners, we will explore the disciplines with each other, creating a community of educators. Through the exploration of the Yamas and Niyamas, we will support one another and create a safe learning environment.

Asana (postures) – Reinforce the biomechanics and physiology of poses, explore advanced teaching methods and sequencing, and learn how to work with individuals.

Pranayama (breath expansion/control) – Learn intermediate pranayama practices

Pratyahara (sense withdrawal) – Use ancient techniques to withdraw the senses and quiet the mind

Dharana (concentration) – Explore a variety of concentration techniques through practice, study, self reflection and deep contemplation.

Dhyana (meditation) – Explore the neurobiological effects of meditation and learn how to teach meditation to a wide variety of students.

Samadhi (finding your authentic Bliss)

 

This 500 hour course:

Increases your exposure to the philosophies and methods of yoga

Strengthens your personal practice through deeper understanding,  reflection, experiential practice

Enhances your skills and knowledge, and cultivates your authentic teaching style

Helps you to understand Yogic philosophy and modern-day applications of ancient texts

Expands your yoga practice off the mat by cultivating an awareness of yoga philosophy for inspired living and teaching. You will have the opportunity to explore Seva, making a profound difference in your community – your yoga as a gift to others

Each 75 hour module is offered once within a four year period. Students do not need to take the courses in any specific order. After completing an approved 200-hour yoga teacher training, you may take the 4 sections as we rotate through them at Kind Yoga School. After finishing each course you will receive a letter of completion. When you have completed your 4 sections you may register with us as a Kind Yoga Professional Level Yoga Teacher.
Yoga Alliance Registration , Kind Yoga is a Yoga Alliance registered 200 and 300 level training  =500
You may at completion of all KYS modules register with Yoga Alliance as a 500 hr. yoga teacher if you choose.
